HELP FOR PARENTS
Parental guidance counselling is a form of counselling that involves working with parents or
guardians to address issues related to their children’s behaviour, development, and overall well-
being. While it is common for counselling sessions to be conducted in a face-to-face setting, there
are now also options for counselling to be done remotely through online platforms. Should you be
interested in this, kindly click on the Online Option tab for further information.
Face-to-face parental guidance counselling takes place at the Child Behaviour Centre office where online sessions are conducted through a secure video call session. During these sessions, we will work with you, the parent, to understand your concerns, explore potential underlying causes or triggers for your child’s behaviour, and develop strategies to address these issues. Children communicate their feelings through their behaviour. Understanding the reasons for the way a child is behaving will help you to bring about change.
The counselling process involves open and honest communication between parents and the
psychologist. We may provide guidance, support, and practical advice on various parenting
techniques, communication methods, and problem-solving strategies. We may also help parents
navigate specific challenges, such as discipline, school-related issues, or emotional well-being.
Effective discipline is based on a healthy parent child relationship, and an understanding of the rulesand consequences.
Parents can benefit from counselling in various ways, such as:
-
- Gaining a better understanding of their child’s behaviour and needs.
- Learning effective communication and problem-solving skills to address conflicts or
behavioural issues. - Developing strategies to manage challenging behaviours, emotions, or difficult situations.
- Enhancing parenting skills and techniques to promote positive child development.
- Improving parent-child relationships and fostering a nurturing and supportive
environment at home. - Reducing parental stress and improving overall family dynamics.
Overall, parental guidance counselling provides parents with a safe and supportive space to discuss their concerns, seek professional advice, and gain guidance to promote a healthy and positive family environment.
